Sunday i went to Fanexpo, which is a comicon, anime con, horror con, sci-fi con and games con all rolled into one. I didn't enjoy it as much as i have the others. There weren't as many artists as in TCAF, or as many kids in costume or panels as AnimeNorth. When i heard some punk ass kid sneering about "fuckin' anime", something struck as wrong, that it's too much in one place, and it lacked that sense of collegiality at the other cons i've been to this year. It's possibly the biggest in Toronto (although, AnimeNorth might give it a run for its money), but not the best.

You can see Roy Thomson Hall through this shabby alleyway.

Anyone remember comedy team Wayne & Shuster? They used to appear on Ed Sullivan (not that i ever saw them on it), but stayed in Canada. Frank Shuster was Joe Shuster's cousin.

The Rocket! Actually, Simcoe Street in Toronto could use a bit of a remake.

Ugh! Unlike previous times i've visited Fanexpo, this time it was in the Convention Centre's South Building, which meant you went in the North Building, went various escalators, through some unfathomable path, across the bridge over the rail tracks, and down a bunch of escalators. Not wonder my feet were tired. Must've walked a kilometre before i even got there.

The CN Tower from the bridge.

One tiny part of the con - there was no good place to get a good pic of the whole place (it all fit into the 200 000 sq ft room).

Damn the lack of light - Jonathan Frakes wasn't this fuzzy in real life.

You never get mistaken for someone else when your name badge is this big.

Ne'er-do-wells.

Artists Alley.

J. Torres, who looks like he says he's not to blame.

However, Adam West IS slightly fuzzy.

Slow motion light sabre fight.

Odd sculpture.

I think he was playing Vince Guaraldi music.

When i drove home, the overpasses all had people with flags on them, and often nearby police cars and fire trucks. What they were waiting for was a vehicle carrying the bodies of the two latest Canadian soldiers to be killed in Afghanistan. They are flown to Canadian Forces Base in Trenton, and then are driven to Toronto, about two hours west, for the formal autopsy.

A close up. This is just one bridge - there are dozens of bridges, and dozens and dozens of people on each one. You can see the traffic coming back from cottage country late Sunday afternoon.

Another bridge, this from behind.

This is my stack of stuff i have to read. You can see the manga i bought at Fanexpo, and a good third is stuff i bought at TCAF.

I bought this at Fanexpo.

And this.
