I've taken a few photos around the area, then made a trip to the zoo. I've never been to the zoo in the fall, so i thought i'd do a visit. The bonus is far fewer tourists. It was a gorgeous day, despite the occasional threat of grey. I was expecting more fall colours - give it a couple more weeks i guess. There are two major exhibits undergoing renovations (yay!), so if one opens soon, i'll go again.

Looking towards the city, across Oshawa, around 7 am, late September.

Country road on the way home.

Composite shot of countryside to the north. You can barely make out the power towers crossing the horizon.

Because of the power plants in the area, the rural skylines tend to be dominated by the towers.

Purdy leaves.

At the zoo. The fall plantlife is different than the summer (fewer bright flowers, but more green, because the sun hasn't been so brutal).

Malayan tapir.

Autumn garden.

Probably annoyed cuz he was inside and his rhino was outside.

Indian rhino.

Hard to focus on moving targets.

Plus the lack of light.

Clouded leopard - a rare instance where the camera could see better than i could.

Orang mom and baby.

White-handed gibbon (lesser ape).

Sumatran tiger.

At the same moment all the tigers decided to play ball.

Ha, ha, the girl beside me kept saying that the tiger owned the ball.

Now in Africa, a fruit bat (flying fox).

Red river hog - look at that grizzled bastard on the right. And a baby at top. mmmm... bacon...

Baby mandrill.

Pygmy hippo.

Sacred ibises.

Meerkat.

Cichlids - evolution in action.

African otter (not sure the actual species).

Hot! Hah! Hah! Hah!
