This was our final piece at the day class, and i tried to mix a couple
of things i wanted to do, one something cartoony, and the other some textury-looking.
It worked out okay, although there are some issues i want to fix. The
hands lost shape. The arms ended up different sizes (and i think i'll
pull its belly colour all the way from under its arm). Its back got a
little high and wasn't supposed to match up to the corner tuft of its
head. It needs a glaze or something, because you can't see the black of
the eyes. Oh and its left ear is a little wonky (our right). On canvas,
24" x 30". |

Our day time art teacher (M-F, 10-4 for a week) got us to use cardboard
as a palette for a lost of the time, then we each selected a postcard
sized chunk, and she cut them out, and framed them as a gift. It is interesting
to see how each of our palette chunks reflected our choices in colours.
On cardboard, 5" x 7" (framed). |

This was our last piece in the evening class (6:45-8:45, over 4 evenings),
and it's based on a photo of the Bata Shoe Museum on Bloor Street in Toronto.
I painted each colour at a time, so it was kind of like building a puzzle,
so the proportions are off. But it works, mostly. I had two hours, which
was not quite enough - if i'd had more time, i would've fixed a few things.
And what an insipid yellow - it took two coats. On canvas, 16" x
20". |
